Wally, the Wayward Sea Turtle
Wally, a little sea turtle, has just hatched and must make his way to the ocean. The light of the moon on the water should guide his path straigh home. He becomes distracted by a light coming from the street. Should he follow the moonlight or the streetlight? He becomes confused and makes the wrong choice. Wally sets off on his journey, but he’s going the wrong way. What will happen to him? Will he ever make it to his beautiful home in the ocean?

Laura Joy Pewitt, MS, Ed., is a writer and teacher. For over 30 years, she’s been educating young children. She encourages parents and other caregivers to read to children and discuss good books together, and don’t forget to take walks and play outside! Her creative ideas for stories come when she’s outdoors, walking along the beach, hiking in the woods, or while sitting on her front porch swing in Tennessee. Her inspiration for, “Wally, the Wayward Sea Turtle,” came from her conversations with sea turtle volunteers who search the beaches looking to protect sea turtle nests and save the hatchlings.

Just received and read the book for the first time with my 10 year old daughter. What a great book!! The story may be about sea turtles on the surface -- but the deeper relation to every day life is wonderful!! Highly recommend this book -- for all ages.

I loved this book! It may have been written for children, but it contains an important message for all ages. The facts about sea turtles in the back of the book was very informative as well. Laura is a talented writer...I hope there will be more books in her future!

Can't say enough about this sweet little book! Teachers and parents will love sharing this book with their children. Such a sweet, inspirational story. The author is able to incorporate the educational aspects of the movement of the sea turtle, paired with a fun, exciting story, through the precious character of Wally. This book keeps both the child and child-at-heart captivated!
